Rushmore starts with Dashiell Hammett, then Frederick Nebel, then Norbert Davis. Not Chandler, or Gardner, or Ross (the lesser) MacDonald - it's Davis. Max Latin is one of my all-time favorites. And Bail Bond Dodd is a blast. Doan and Carstairs - few could pull off novel-length hardboiled comedy like this. And he could write straight hardboiled - Ben Shaley doesn't have too much humor. For the Davis fan, I suggest D. L. Champion's Rex Sackler. They are really the only funny hardboiled I feel like Davis could have written.

My Hardboiled Mt.
