Ha! Just like my study, but with more windows and fewer swords.

Surprisingly, "War and Peace" turns out to be a good read. I started reading it one Christmas because I was interested in how Tolstoy would depict battles, him being a veteran himself. Ended up being totally sucked into the thing. 45 is a good age to read it.

Alright then, based on YOUR rec, I've wandered downstairs to the giveaway box and rescued WAR AND PEACE and it is back on my shelf. I'll give it one more shot. In the decade before his death, my father told me he kept trying to read it as his bed book, but he'd doze off and the thing would clonk him on the nose. My own experience hasn't been quite as pronounced, but I've so far been far from ensnared.

Bucket lists may be morbid, but for books, I begin to think they are essential.

As for WAR AND PEACE, it is not only a terrific novel, but it has informed my writing ever since, in multiple projects and multiple ways, making it perhaps the single greatest investment of my reading time ever.

Now stop reading this comment, and go read a book.

I like the idea of a bucket list of books. I think I'll steal this idea for my own blog, if you don't mind. We seem to have similar tastes. I recognize quite a few books spines from my own shelves.
